About The INFORUM Ghana
The Informal Economy Workers’ Forum of Ghana (INFORUM GHANA) The INFORUM Ghana was legally registered in 2020 as an Umbrella Trade Union Organization for Informal Economy Workers in Ghana with a mission of bringing together bigger, smaller, and splinter Associations in the Informal Economy under one Umbrella for a common purpose of protecting, sustaining and promoting their common interests through voice and representation, advocacy, lobbying, campaigns, and negotiations. The INFORUM has over Five Million Members across the country drawn from 72 Affiliates Associations of workers in both formal and Informal sectors.
Whereas it is necessary that those who labor have full freedom to associate and to belong to trade unions of their choice, to negotiate the terms and conditions of their employment, and be free from interference, restraint, or coercion from employers or their agents in line with the elaborate  provisions of the 1992 constitution of Ghana and the Labour Act 2003(Act 651) and,
Whereas the organization of workers into Trades Unions has been demonstrated to be and is essential to economic, social, and political freedom of society and to the successful functioning of democracy and the state, devoid of autocracy to the end that citizens shall live and work without discrimination or exploitation, and
Whereas workers especially in the informal economy have suffered the worse forms of abuses, discrimination, oppression, exploitation and violation in the hands of government and employers by reason of their inability to organize and to forge a united front, and in order to curb the perpetration of such acts of illegality against workers in the informal economy;
The Organizations, Unions, Associations and individuals operating in the Ghanaian informal and Gig economy deem it appropriate to form a united front to protect, sustain and promote the common interests of Workers in the Informal and Gig Economy of Ghana.
In 2019, a National Informal Economy Workers’ Forum was held in Accra to identify the challenges of the Informal Economy during which it was identified that the sector lacks a united front. This has become a barrier to its growth since Employers and Governments take undue advantage of the heterogeneous and complex nature of the sector to the detriment of operators in the sector.
Against this backdrop, the Informal Economy Workers’ Forum Ghana (INFORUM Ghana) was formed as an umbrella Organization for workers in the Informal Economy of Ghana.
